The Prairie County Clerk and Recorder/Clerk of Court office is now accepting applications for a full-time permanent position.  Application and job description may be picked up at the Clerk’s office.  Completed application must be returned to the Clerk’s office by 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2017.

Employment Category:  Full Time Permanent Employee

Wages:  $15.00/hr 6 month probationary period;
$16.00 to 80% of C/R base salary, dependent of job performance

Hours:  8:00 a.m. thru 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. thru 5:00 p.m.
Monday thru Friday every week
2080 hours per year with periodic overtime

Accountable to:  Prairie County Clerk and Recorder / Clerk of Court    

Benefits:  Public Employee’s Retirement (7.9% employee / 8.37% employer);
Vacation Leave (accrue immediately, can use after 6 continuous months)
Sick Leave (accrue immediately, can use after 3 continuous months)

Job Duties and Requirements (Duties of the Clerk and Recorder for which the deputy is required to assist):

  • Perform clerical and accounting duties in the processing of County Treasurers monthly receipts and disbursements
  • Clerk to the Prairie County Commissioners
  • Recorder of land exchanges, mortgages, satisfactions, etc
  • Administering the County Budget
  • Election administration and registration of voters
  • Maintaining accounts payables
  • Processing County payroll
  • Maintain County cemetery records
  • Secretary of various County boards
  • Maintain land ownership records (includes maps, plat books, cards, etc.)
  • Assistance of customers over the phone
  • Adheres to customer service policies
  • Assume responsibility of office in absence of Clerk
  • Any other duties as required by the Clerk and Recorder

Job Duties and Requirements: (Duties of the Clerk of Court for which the deputy is required to assist):

  • Maintain Court records
  • Issuance of Marriage License
  • Court Proceedings
  • Any other duties as required by the Clerk of Court

Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • This position requires a basic knowledge of government accounting.  You must also have skills in the use of computers, printers, ten-key, fax machines, telephones and other modern office practices.

This employee must have the ability to:

  • Assume responsibility in the absence of the Clerk
