The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is making approximately $30 million in incentive funding available under the new Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration program. A notice of funding availability (NOFA) and request for applications for the new innovation deployment grant program was published in the Federal Register on February 19 (Docket No. FHWA-2013-0048). The NOFA (https://federalregister.gov/a/2014-03452) describes the application process, eligibility requirements, and criteria FHWA will use to select projects for funding.

FHWA is now accepting applications through Grants.gov on a rolling basis from State departments of transportation (DOT), Federal Land Management Agencies, and tribal governments. Metropolitan planning organizations and local governments may also apply as subrecipients through their State DOT. Under the AID Demonstration program, funds are available to implement an innovation in any aspect of highway transportation including planning, financing, operation, structures, materials, pavements, environment, and construction on any project eligible for assistance under title 23, United States Code. The full cost of the innovation in a project may be awarded up to the maximum amount of $1,000,000. This program is a potential resource to implement innovations included in the Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative (http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/everydaycounts/). More detailed program information is provided on the FHWA's Web site at http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/accelerating/grants
