With the introduction of SB 117 in the 2011 Legislative Session, many questions about local government's interaction with federal agency decision-making processes surfaced - with few being answered.

When federal land use and planning laws such as the Federal Land Policy Management Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, National Forest Management Act, Endangered Species Act, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and the National Preservation Act are taken together it becomes a challenge for local officials, and in some cases, federal employees to know what processes should, and can be used when they are considering actions.  This workshop will bring together a panel of presenters that will discuss these various laws and how local governments can best engage federal agencies in decision-making.

Invited presenters include:

  • Jamie Connell, Bureau of Land Management MT State Director
  • Tom Schmidt, US Forest Service Deputy Regional Forester
  • Cynthia Moses-Nedd, Department of the Interior Liaison to State & Local Gov
  • Randy Phillips, Forest Service Liaison to NACo
  • Derek Rapier, County Attorney, Greenlee County, Arizona
  • Dan Happel, Madison County Commissioner
  • MT Bureau of Land Management Planning Staff
  • Forest Service Representative

There will be a $15 registration fee to cover lunch.  If you plan to attend the workshop but not have lunch, please register as a “Name Tag Only” attendee.

That will give us a count for handouts.  Please register for this workshop no later than this Friday, September 9th.  We have to provide a meal count to the hotel Monday morning.
