The Local Government Services Bureau (DOA)  is offering budget /tax levy and year-end closing  training to local governments on June 14, 2018 in Butte at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.  Lunch will not be provided.

There will be six other workshops presented in six different locations throughout the State during June, with hopes that you’re able to attend one offered near you:

Local Government Services is collaborating with the MSU Local Government Center so that city/town clerks, treasurers and finance officers may earn IIMC and APT US&C credits.  CPE credits will also be offered.
 
The training will cover:

  • Budgets
    • The purpose of budgetingbudget and taxation timelinestypes of budgets and mill levieshow to calculate the mill levy in accordance with MCA, including how to complete the levy determination formhow to complete the tax levy and non-tax requirements schedules in the budget documentthe purpose of cash reservesthe importance of monitoring the budget throughout the year.
  • Year-End Closing
    • Resources available to assist with year-end adjustmentswhat adjustments are needed as part of the year-end closing processgeneral review of the trial balancereconciliation of cash and receivablescapital assets – what qualifies as a capital asset; recording acquisition and disposal; and annual depreciationshort- and long-term liabilitiesrecognition of revenues and payables at year-end.

  • The local government you represent; and
  • The # of people for which you are registering.

The presenter will send you a confirmation e-mail with the PowerPoint slides that will be used at the presentation.  Paper copies of these slides will NOT be provided at the workshops, so please ensure that you upload the slides to your device or print a paper copy to bring to the workshop.
