The Energy and Telecommunications Interim Committee of the Montana Legislature is seeking public comment through June 27 on a draft report reviewing Montana's renewable portfolio standard (RPS).

Since 2008, the Montana Renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act, better known as Montana's RPS, required certain utilities to procure a percentage of their resources from renewable resources. As directed by Senate Joint Resolution No. 6, the ETIC reviewed the economic impacts of the RPS, the environmental impacts of the standard, and the impacts the standard has had on Montana consumers.

The draft report, "Renewable Rewards and Risks: A look at the impacts of Montana's Renewable Portfolio Standard", is available for public comment on the ETIC Website at www.leg.mt.gov/etic. Click on the link to the July 18 meeting to read the document. The committee also wants to hear from the public on potential findings and recommendations. Committee members will submit their draft findings and recommendations using a worksheet, which is also available on the Website.

The ETIC will meet July 18 in Helena to review and discuss the public comments and draft findings and recommendations.

Public comment should be submitted to Sonja Nowakowski, ETIC staff, at snowakowski@mt.gov (put RPS in the subject line) or to Legislative Services Division, Attn. Sonja Nowakowski, P.O. Box 201704, Helena, MT 59620-1704.For more information, contact Sonja Nowakowski at 406-444-3078.
