As you all know, House Bill 258, a MACo-requested bill, was heard Saturday, March 9 on the floor of the Senate.  To recap, Senator Dick Barrett moved to concur on the bill, but the motion failed on a 21-25 vote.  The bill was then moved by Senator Art Wittich to “Indefinitely Postpone 2nd Reading,” which passed on a 27-19 vote.

That brings us to today:  With all of your help, and we thank you very much for contacting your Senators, Senator Barrett moved to reconsider the previous action, which was to “indefinitely postpone.”  That motion passed on a 35-14 vote. Then Senator Wittich moved to re-refer HB 258 to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which failed on a 22-27 vote.  Senator Edward Buttrey then moved to re-refer HB 258 back to the Senate Local Government Committee, which passed 45-4.

HB 258 is scheduled to be heard in front of the Senate Local Government Committee on Friday, March 15 at 3:00 p.m. in room 405.  We are working with the committee on some amendments.

Again, thank you all for your help in getting this bill back on the right track.
