The final report of the Children, Families, Health, and Human Services Interim Committee is now available online.

"A Look at Health and Hunger in Montana: Reviewing Programs for Montanans in Need" summarizes most of the activities the committee undertook during the 2011-2012 interim. The report covers the committee's work on:

  • the House Joint Resolution 8 study of hunger;
  • matters related to the state Medicaid program in light of changes that may occur as the federal health care law goes into effect;
  • matters related to implementation of Senate Bill 423, which enacted new regulations for the program allowing use of marijuana for debilitating medical conditions;
  • oversight activities related to the Department of Health and Human Services, including matters involving the safety of residents at the Montana Developmental Center in Boulder; and
  • the review of two studies undertaken by the State Auditor's Office, involving insurance coverage for patients in cancer clinical trials and the costs and benefits of establishing a database containing payment of all medical claims by all insurers.

A separate report on the committee's Senate Joint Resolution 30 study of childhood trauma will be published later this year.

The final report is available on the home page of the committee's website and on the site's Staff Reports page, which also contains all other staff reports prepared during the interim. A limited number of copies are available. If you'd like to receive a copy of the printed report, please contact Sue O'Connell at 406-444-3597 or
