Committee Accepting Comments on DPHHS Advisory Councils

The Children, Families, Health, and Human Services Interim Committee is seeking public comment on several councils created in law to serve in an advisory role to the Department of Public Health and Human Services. The committee will review the work of the advisory groups at its May 14 meeting.

The groups range from the Advisory Council on Aging to the Service Area Authorities and Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council.

The 2011 Legislature passed House Bill 142, which requires all interim committees to review both advisory councils and agency reports that are required by state law for the agencies they oversee. The committees are supposed to decide whether any of the councils or reports should be eliminated or revised.

Briefing papers summarizing each DPHHS-related council and listing the required reports are available on the Committee's HB 142 web page.

As part of the review, the Children and Families Committee will accept public comment related to the advisory councils and reports. People may provide comment at the May 14 meeting or may submit comments in writing in advance of the meeting.

Comments should be specific in noting whether a council or report should be retained, eliminated, ore revised.

Written public comment should be submitted by April 27. It may be submitted via e-mail or by regular mail to:
