The Environmental Quality Council has just completed a publication to assist the public in learning about eminent domain in Montana.  Eminent Domain in Montana provides an overview of eminent domain laws in Montana.

New EQC MEPA Resources Available

The Legislative Environmental Policy Office has available its latest edition of A Guide to the Montana Environmental Policy Act. New to the 2013 edition are legislative changes from the 2011 and 2013 Sessions, recent information on MEPA-related litigation, and a comprehensive list of state actions exempt from MEPA.

After a year’s worth of study, the Environmental Quality Council gave final approval on Sept.12 to a bill draft that would change the way state parks and certain recreational programs are administered in Montana.

The Environmental Quality Council is moving forward with five committee bill drafts by holding a formal, 30-day public comment period before deciding in September whether to send the bills to the 2013 Legislature for consideration.

At a July 18 meeting, the Environmental Quality Council will again discuss the idea of giving Montana’s state parks their own governing body. The EQC gave preliminary approval to the concept in May with bill draft LC 9000. However, council members have proposed a few tweaks and will review those changes before deciding whether to move forward with the draft.

Montana's State Parks would get their own governing body, separate from the current Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Commission, under a bill draft proposal moved forward by the Environmental Quality Council at a May meeting.
