U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke will be meeting with local Montana officials on June 27th to talk about the payment in lieu of taxes program (PILT).  The group, which will include Montana County Commissioners, Billings Mayor and City Council Members, and Representation from Montana’s Congressional Offices, will convene at 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. in room 3108 of the Stillwater Building in downtown Billings (316 N. 26th Street).  “We are honored to host Montana’s first cabinet member, Secretary Zinke, and look forward to the discussion,” said Yellowstone County Commissioner, John Ostlund.

On June 19, 2018 MACo was one of many counties across the country on a conference call regarding the underfunding of Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) for 2015, 2016, and 2017.  The call was with the National Association of Counties (NACo) and a law firm (Smith, Currie, and Hancock) representing Kane County, Utah.

The Montana Association of Counties’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of MACo Deputy Director Eric Bryson as the new MACo Executive Director.  Current Executive Director, Harold Blattie, who has been serving as MACo’s Executive Director since 2005, has announced his retirement effective April 30, 2018.

MEMO: Courthouse Closures on Non-Legal Holidays

MACo has been asked whether or not County Courthouses and County offices may be closed on the day of Christmas Eve, or the Friday after Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, Good Friday, or any other day not specified as a holiday.  For all of the County offices headed by elected officials, the short answer is No, with the notable exception of the County Commissioners’ office.
