County Leadership Institute
In the spring of each year a cadre of up to 30 local elected officials, nominated by their state association executive directors, meets in Washington, DC for an intensive program on adaptive leadership. CLI faculty challenge participants with new approaches to collaboration, communications and coalition building through classroom and small group exercises. CLI grads leave with a clearer sense of personal mission and a strong network of peers for continued challenge and support. Originating in 2004, CLI now boasts 186 alumni.

Contact your state association executive director if you’re interested in being nominated for this year’s class. The deadline for nominations is February 15.
For more information on CLI, contact Karon M. Harden, Director of Educational Services at Kharden@naco.org.
The CLI is a tremendous opportunity to immerse national leaders in adaptive leadership techniques, through a peer group setting. Not only are valuable skills learned, that are immediately transferable back home, but lasting relationships are formed with county leaders throughout the nation. The NACo CLI and its continuous professional development is one of the most valuable member benefits NACo provides.
