The Bullock Administration has made several changes to improve security for the Capitol Complex. Helena-based state employees need to be aware of several of these changes.

  • Numbers to call on the Capitol Complex.
    • In the event of an emergency on the Capitol Complex, immediately call 911.  You don't need to dial 8 first.
    • For non-emergency situations, a Capitol Complex police officer can be reached at 444-9498.
    • For assistance regarding an issue with a building (repair, maintenance, janitorial, etc.) call the General Services Division at 444-3060.
  • Change in hours of the Capitol.
    • Effective September 1, 2013, the hours that the Capitol will be open to the public will change slightly.
    • The new hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Capitol will be closed to the public Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
    • Access to the Capitol before/after these hours will not be affected for employees with electronic badge access to the Capitol.
    • These hours will be expanded during legislative sessions.
  • New conduct policy for the Capitol Complex.
    • The Department of Administration updated its “conduct policy” in order to create a safer environment for employees and the public using state facilities or state grounds. The new policy is attached and will be accessible through the Montana Operations Manual system found at Conduct Policy for State Space and State Grounds in Helena
    • This policy applies whether employees are in a state-owned building in Helena or one that is leased by the State in Helena.
    • One item of particular note for state employees is the new requirement that state-issued identification badges must be on their person while in state space.
    • Employees are also reminded that animals, other than service animals, are not permitted in state space. See the policy for details.

Questions on this policy should be directed to the Department of Administration, 444-3307 or doadirector@mt.gov.
