Bresnan Tax Protest Case

The Montana Department of Revenue announced today that it has decided to appeal to the Montana Supreme Court a recent District Court decision involving Bresnan Communications' 2010 property tax assessment.

Realty Transfer Certificates Update

The Department of Revenue has updated the Realty Transfer Certificate (RTC) pursuant to 2011 legislative action.  The 2011 law requires that the sale price be disclosed on foreclosure-related transactions, so we have expanded sections four and five of the form to better track distressed sales.

Mill Levy Computation Form

The inflation factor for FY 2013 is 1.20%.  Per 15-10-420, MCA, “a governmental entity that is authorized to impose mills may impose a mill levy sufficient to generate the amount of property taxes actually assessed in the prior year plus one-half of the average rate of inflation for the prior 3 years.”
