During the 2019 Legislative Session, HB 175, Provide for state employee pay plan, passed and is effective July 1st.  HB 175 changed the state meal reimbursement rates. If your county’s meal rates are tied to the statutory state rate or the rate set in the Montana Operations Manual, then your meal rates will be going up.  If you formally adopted a resolution setting the rates differently, you’ll remain at those rates; however, if something formal wasn’t adopted, but your travel claim form references the state rates, you may be required to increase your rates—please refer to your county attorney.

New State Meal Rates:

  • morning meal changes from $5 to $7.50
  • midday meal changes from $6 to $8.50
  • evening meal changes from $12 to $14.50
