On March 26th, Governor Steve Bullock issued a Directive requiring Montanans to stay home; it also temporarily closes all nonessential businesses and operations to curtail the spread of COVID-19. The order, which goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on March 28, will buy time for health care workers on the frontlines and seeks to limit long term impacts to the state’s economy.
The Department of Revenue is continually monitoring the COVID-19 effects on Montana and adjusting our work plans accordingly. We are implementing social distancing standards within our offices and actively enabling many of our staff to work from home. As with other public offices, we have closed our doors to unscheduled public visits. Phone numbers for property owners to call for questions, or to set up an appointment will be posted at each office. If a meeting or person to person conversation is needed, staff will maintain a safe environment and keep the discussion brief. We will be limiting the work that our appraisers will be doing in the field. Appraisers will avoid direct interactions with property owners and will not enter occupied properties.
The Montana Manufacturing Extension Center has developed a resource page for Montana manufacturers to assist with the development and production of supplies that are needed to slow the spread of and respond to the novel coronavirus or COVID-19.
On March 24th, Governor Bullock announced measures to give local governments the flexibility needed to adhere to social distancing guidelines in order to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Montanans can now begin filling out their Census forms online or by phone at my2020census.gov or 1-844-330-2020. In conjunction with the beginning of the 2020 Census, Montana’s Complete Count Committee is releasing its final public service announcement encouraging Montanans to respond.
The State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) outlines five key priority areas to improve health in Montana, with goals, proven strategies to address health problems, and data to monitor health trends. Engage with your public health departments on their work to create community health improvement plans at the local level and use the data and strategies in the SHIP to start a conversation about how local trends might be mirroring state public health concerns.
On February 27th, Governor Steve Bullock announced a $6 million grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to provide 2,200 lifesaving Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to law enforcement and first responders across the state to help improve the cardiac system of care.
Public health agencies at all levels are responding to a new coronavirus originally identified in Wuhan, a city of 11 million in the Hubei province of China. Since the detection of the virus, currently known as 2019 nCoV, the illness has spread quickly in China resulting in over 20,000 cases and over 400 deaths reported in China as of 2/4/2020. While nearly 30 countries have reported at least one case, including 11 in the United States with direct and indirect links to Wuhan, China appears to be the only area with sustained transmission of the virus at this time.
Health in the 406 is a regular communication by the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) on a variety of health topics designed to raise awareness of issues that impact the daily lives of Montanans.
For those of you that are looking at grant funding this coming year, you have less than 30 days left to sign up and complete the free National CyberSecurity Review (NCSR). This is now a requirement for any grant funding coming from State DES, State 911, DHS or MBOCC.
