Fellow Commissioners and elected Officials,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Kevin Krausz. I was born and raised in Miles City, Custer County. I have been married to my beautiful wife Sheila for over 41 years. Together, we have two adult children, Chance and Kimber and are proud grandparents of five amazing grandchildren.
I was elected to the Custer County Commission in November 2012 and attended my first MACo event just three weeks later. For the past 13 years, I have been actively involved in MACo, consistently participating and contributing to our shared goals.
A Lifetime of Service, Leadership, and Dedication to Montana Communities
I have over four decades of diverse experience in public service, law enforcement, business, and county leadership. My career reflects a deep commitment to community development, public safety, and collaborative governance.
Professional Background
- Law Enforcement: I served for 20 years with the Miles City Police Department, rising from probation officer to Chief of Police. I specialized in evidence processing, fire investigation, and 911 coordination to name a few.
- County Leadership: I was elected Custer County Commissioner in 2012. I served as Commission Chair and Vice-Chair across multiple terms. I have led numerous infrastructure and community improvement projects.
- Business Owner: I co-owned apartment properties and a FedEx Ground contracting business, demonstrating entrepreneurial and operational expertise.
MACo Involvement
- Justice & Public Safety Committee: Member since 2013, Chair or vice chair since 2016, currently Chair.
- Economic Development & Workforce Committee: Member 2022- present
- MACo Health Trust Board: Vice Chair 2016–2023, Currently Chair 2024–2025.
- MACo Board of Directors: 2019–2025.
- District #3 Director: Vice Chair 2016–2019, Chair 2019–2025.
- MACo Resolution Committee: Member
- State 911 Advisory Board: Appointed by Governor Gianforte in 2023 as the MACo representative
- National Representation: Attended NACo Legislative Conferences, Annual Conferences and represented MACo in Washington, D.C. on the Public and Justice Committee.
Community Engagement
- Coached youth sports for over a decade, served on multiple local boards, and co-founded two nonprofit organizations: Friends of the Fairgrounds and Timberline Disc Golf.
- Longtime member of civic groups including Jaycees, Toastmasters, FOE, and Kiwanis.
Key Accomplishments
- I oversaw major infrastructure projects: bridges, water/sewer lines, detention center, event center, fairground upgrades and a new Fire Hall/Transit building.
- I advocated public safety, emergency preparedness, and community health.
- I championed regional collaboration and economic development initiatives.
