Salary: $137,000 (Based on a combination of State and County payment. Salary is subject to COLA adjustments and State employee raises annually.)
Closing Date: Applications received by 5:00 pm on November 21, 2024 will be first considered for interviews. The application period will remain open until the position is filled. First in-person interviews will be scheduled November 25-27. Additional interviews to be scheduled as needed.
Starting Date: The outgoing County Attorney is expected to depart early January 2025. The appointed official will be sworn in and take office immediately upon the vacancy.
Position Description
Summary
The Broadwater County Attorney represents the County in all civil legal matters, and prosecutes criminal cases on behalf of the State of Montana. By Inter-Local Agreement, the County Attorney’s Office also prosecutes misdemeanor offenses on behalf of the City of Townsend. The County Attorney is expected to fulfill all of the duties described in Montana law for this elected official position, as well as the office of County Administrator.
The County Attorney oversees a staff that includes two Deputy County Attorneys, a Legal Secretary, and a Victim Witness Advocate. The office is located at the Courthouse in Townsend, Montana. This position will be appointed by the County Commission, to fill the remainder of the current elected term of office. The position will be subject to election in 2026. Upon appointment, the County Attorney must become an elector of Broadwater County.
