About the Position & Department
The Shop Foreman works for the Road Department under the direct supervision of the Road Superintendent. This is a full time, permanent, fifty (50) hour a week position. Eligible for sick and vacation leave, holiday pay and health insurance.
This position oversees all County Shop activities, ensuring consistent quality of maintenance and repair work on County equipment and vehicles. Performs mechanical repairs and maintenance on all County equipment including but not limited to heavy equipment, motor vehicles, small engine, and various type of grounds equipment.
Required Education & Experience
Employment with the County requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, possess or obtain a valid Montana Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), current medical examiner’s certificate, Montana Class A and Class B Underground Storage Tank Certifications within six (6) months of hire. The knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this work are typically acquired via an Associate degree/certification in auto mechanics or equivalent. Minimum requirements include five (5) years’ experience working in diesel, general automotive and heavy equipment repair, and one (1) year welding experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
One (1) year supervisory or management experience, prior experience as a Shop Foreman and OSHA 10 certification is preferred. A welding safety certification is a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
This position requires a Montana Class A Commercial Driver License and is subject to pre-employment controlled substance testing and a motor vehicle driving history review. Upon employment, this position will undergo random, on-going alcohol and controlled substance testing and an annual motor vehicle driving history review. Must be a registered driver in the FMSCA Clearinghouse and consent to a pre-employment query of the Clearinghouse.
