NACo is encouraging our divided government to unite and develop and pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill to address key priorities that include a fix to reoccurring shortages in the Highway Trust fund, an effort to create efficiencies such as accelerating the federal permitting process, while continuing to provide environmental protections, and to deliver a well-functioning national infrastructure network driven by a long-term vision and funding stability.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) Community, Economic, and Workforce Development (CEWD) Committee met off site at the Boulder Highway Collaborative Campus for the first meeting. The Boulder Highway Campus is an innovative and affordable housing site created in partnership with NV HAND, Clark County, the Boys & Girls Club and the Lutheran Social Services of Southern Nevada. It highlighted the collaborative efforts to address affordable & workforce housing.

WASHINGTON – At the National Association of Counties (NACo) 84th Annual Conference and Exposition, Cascade County, Mont. Commissioner Joe Briggs was elected to serve on NACo’s Executive Committee as the West region representative.

On Friday July 12, the T&T Steering Committee convened for official business during the NACO Annual Conference. Outside the temperature was in the 105-108 range but inside the facility we moved the business of NACo and MACo forward.

The 2019 NACo Western Interstate Region (WIR) Conference was held May 15-17 in Spokane, Washington.  This Conference brings together county officials from across the nation to focus on pressing issues facing counties and our residents. Each year the conference is hosted by a county within the fifteen Western states—Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawai’i, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming—and provides attendees with the opportunity to interact with federal, state, and regional policymakers, participate in educational sessions, and take home tools to address challenges.

On March 2, the Telecommunications & Technology Steering Committee convened for official business during the Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. At the meeting, members were joined by several Capitol Hill staffers who provided updates on legislative activities to improve and advance rural broadband as well as legislation to rescind the Federal Communication Commissions’ (FCC) controversial 5G order. Afterwards, the committee considered three proposed interim policy resolutions.

The Human Services & Education Committee met on March 2 during the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. The committee focused on immigration reform, Early Childhood Development, the Dream Act, Energy Assistance for Low Income Persons (LIHEAP), and the Older American Act.

The National Association of Counties recently met in Washington D.C. for the annual Legislative Conference. The Transportation Committee met on Saturday, March 2nd, to discuss priorities including policy statements, airport funding, highway/highway safety, ports, transit and rail, and approve resolutions.
