Mineral Leasing Act (MLA, 30 U.S.C. 191) payments were sequestered under the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 (BBEDCA) by the federal government for our state FY 2018. The federal government has made a determination that those FY 2018 monies should be returned to the State of Montana.
Those sequestered MLA monies were received on or around April 4, 2019, and the funds have been deposited into the mineral impact account to be distributed to local governments according to MCA 17-3-240 and 17-3-241.
The distribution to eligible counties is based on the proportion of the total amount of revenue generated by the mineral extraction in an eligible county to the total money received by the state.
The total amount from the returned sequestered monies to be distributed to the counties for FY 2018 is $327,380.09. A list of the distribution amounts can be accessed by clicking the button below.
If you have any questions regarding the determination of the reimbursement amounts, please contact Jake Ford with the Montana Department of Revenue at (406) 444-0980.
