Cascade County Invite Letter
Dear Fellow MACo Members,
The Cascade County Commissioners look forward to you joining us in Great Falls for the 110th Annual Conference of the Montana Association of Counties.
The host county commissioners, with the never-ending support of Karen Houston and MACo Staff, organize an extremely valuable and informative series of speakers, panels, and seminars to keep county elected officials in the know on matters of local and national importance. Each year the host community gets a chance to display the progress made since MACo last visited.
Cascade County is no different. We have a newly revitalized downtown dining and entertainment district to enjoy including new brewpubs, specialty foods, and signature drinks. This summer, the county will be showcasing a brand new Grandstand at Montana Expo Park as well as other notable projects such as a newly restored copper roof on our historic courthouse that we invite you to visit.
But we also have one thing here in Cascade County that no other county can boast; we are home to the 341st Missile Wing. One of the only three Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) bases in the nation. These ICBMs are part of the strategic defense triad protecting our nation and deterring attack from foreign nationals.
Ever wondered what the inside of the missile silo looks like? Ever wondered about the two keys that have to be turned simultaneously to launch U.S. nuclear assets at the enemy?
The commander of the 341st Missile Wing, Colonel Jennifer Reeves, has graciously offered a limited number of our attendees a tour of the base to learn the answers to these and other questions you may have regarding your nation’s missile force.
Those taking advantage of this 3-hour tour on Thursday morning will get a behind the scenes look at the business of Nuclear Deterrence that most Americans will never see. You will attend a mission brief provided by senior leadership at Malmstrom and then visit both the Training Silo and the Launch Control Trainer. As Malmstrom is a controlled access facility, those requesting to attend this tour will be required to provide personal information and will be subjected to a background check.
To register for the tour, please contact Commissioner Joe Briggs at 406-454-6915 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope you will join us in Great Falls in September for the 2019 MAco Annual Conference. Make plans to stay Thursday morning for a once-in-a-lifetime visit to the secured facilities at Malmstrom AFB.
Joe Briggs, Chairman, Cascade County Commission
James L. Larson, Commissioner
Jane Weber, Commissioner
American Hero Quilt Project
“The American Hero Quilt Project” is on again this year during the MACo Annual Conference in Great Falls. Please bring your sewing machine, rotary cutter, mat and ruler and any other basic sewing supplies. We will spend our time making red, white and blue quilts that will be given to injured soldiers at the Madigan Army Hospital in Washington State. Last year we made 8 quilt tops.
The Forsyth PieceMakers Quilt Guild will furnish the backing and batting, finish quilting them and ship them or deliver them to the hospital. If you don’t sew, that’s okay. We will teach you how to cut, press or design. There is a place for everyone!!
You can come for an hour, a day or for the whole process. Do not feel obligated to stay the whole time. We welcome everyone for as much time as they would like to spend.
We would like to ask each county to bring at least 1 yard of red, white or blue fabric. We also use cream, beige or gold. The fabric cannot have any sparkle or metallic thread in it.
If you have any questions, please e-mail Marlys Lee at email@example.com or call her at
(406) 346-2969 (home) or (406) 351-3039 (cell).
If any of the exhibitors would like to bring 1 yard of material, it would be greatly appreciated and please feel free to be a part of this project.
Thank you so much for helping make this project successful every year. We look forward to seeing you in Great Falls.
